Who is Saint Nicholas?

Otherwise known as...
Santa Claus
***

The Legend and History of Saint Nicholas, the Gift Giver.
The real Santa Claus, or Saint Nicholas, had a reputation
for secret gift giving based on a story of a man
with three daughters.
Saint Nicholas secretly gave three bags of gold,
part of his inheritance,
as dowries for the daughters to prevent them from
being abandoned to life of sin.
Saint Nicholas became known throughout the land for his generosity.
He would appear offering help to anyone in difficulty,
then quietly disappear!
***
He was especially interested that families had enough to eat
and a good place to live.
Saint Nicholas loved the sailors,
for living so dangerously, while out at sea.
Without their ships, people everywhere would be without
food and other goods they carried for trade.
***
While he lived, he gave the little ones he met
small gifts, some candy, or a toy.
His kindness, which always managed to surprise people,
touched their hearts.

To this day...
Saint Nicholas (Santa Claus), can be remembered as
what a beautiful thing giving is!

We all could learn from St. Nicholas.

In honor of giving, I created this Saint Nicholas,
to hang on my Christmas tree.
***
To remind me...
it is always better to give, than to receive.
